We are looking for an experienced Internal Audit Advisor who is keen to play a pivotal role in the delivery of a comprehensive audit and continuous improvement programme at Bay of Plenty Regional Council – Toi Moana.

Te āhuatunga a te tūranga | About the role

The Internal Audit Advisor works within the Risk and Assurance team to deliver a comprehensive value-add internal audit and continuous improvement programme. In this varied and interesting role, you will:

  • Lead and support the delivery of risk-based internal audits.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the business, through the provision of robust assurance advice and support.
  • Lead and champion continuous improvement initiatives, methodologies, and concepts.
  • Provide input into a variety of Council projects, alongside subject matter experts, that ultimately contribute to a thriving Bay of Plenty community.

Ō pūmanawa | Your skills and experience

Our ideal candidate will bring a good blend of technical expertise in internal audit, assurance, and continuous improvement, along with personal attributes that align with our Toi Moana values. Specifically, this includes:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business (or similar relevant field).
  • Membership of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ), or a similar body.
  • Minimum of two years’ post-qualification relevant experience.
  • Highly developed communication, influencing and relationship building skills at all levels, including senior leadership.
  • The ability to understand, assimilate and interpret complex information and draw conclusions from it.
  • The ability to take a pragmatic and outcomes-focused view to solving complex problems.
  • Strong written and verbal presentation skills.

Membership of a recognised Internal Auditor’s body or experience in Continuous Improvement methodology (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean Essentials, or equivalent) would be advantageous.

Toi Moana Bay of Plenty Regional Council is responsible for land, air and water as well as public transport and economic development. A major focus of our work involves looking after the environment. We manage the effects of people's use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water.
